Aikaterina Kousoulaki

I am a senior researcher in nutrition at Nofima for the last 14 years (2007-2021). My research areas are nutrition, aquaculture production physiology, appetite regulation, mineral nutrition, marine ingredients including microalgae downstream processing and feed technology. Among my special interests are formulation of weaning and grower diets and processing and application of novel raw materials in low marine – high plant aquafeeds as well as the use of marine side stream biomass towards human nutritional supplements. I am currently the coordinator of the BBI JU Horizon project AQUABIOPRO-FIT which aims at the development of a.o. nutritional supplements for sports nutrition from fisheries and aquaculture side stream raw materials in Norway and Spain.
I have a bachelor’s degree in Biology from Athens University, Greece, and master’s in aquaculture and fisheries management from Wageningen University, The Nederlands. The title of my PhD is «Nutritional needs of common Pandora (Pagellus erythrinus) for protein and energy». My PhD was a collaboration between a large aquaculture company (Selonda Aquaculture), the Hellenic Center of Marine Research and the University of Athens in Greece. Previously, I worked for 8 years (1999-2007) in the aquaculture industry in Greece as Nutrition, R&D Manager and Analytical lab responsible on marine fish nutrition, genetics, and fish feed quality assessment. Moreover, I was responsible for R&D in new species for aquaculture. I have been member as nutrition specialist in the advisory committee of the Association of Greek Mariculturists and are currently member of the European Aquaculture Society and the Biobased Industries Consortium (BBI) in EU, representing Nofima.
