Summary
Feed for ballan wrasse should be processed at low temperatures to reduce the prevalence and severity of skeletal deformities in ballan wrasse. Increased content of marine phospholipids in the feed can possibly be uses as a strategy to increase the energy reserves in ballan wrasse. The requirement for micronutrients seems to be close to the recommended numbers for salmon. Krill and poultry products can be cheaper alternatives to cod muscle and shrimp meal in feeds for ballan wrasse. However, total replacements with poultry meal resulted in reduced survival and significantly lower growth. More research is needed to optimize both the optimal combination of different feed ingredients and the requirements for specific micronutrients.
