Anlaug Ådland Hansen
PhD
Senior Scientist
As a senior researcher, I work with various packaging materials, packaging technologies, and storage conditions, primarily for seafood and meat products, and how these affect the products’ shelf life and quality. The effect of different packaging materials’ properties combined with various packaging methods and different exposures during storage, as well as the raw material quality at the time of packaging (initial quality), is essential. My expertise also includes various quality analyses such as microbiological analyses, sensory analyses, and physical and chemical analyses, as well as food waste prevention measures and circular packaging solutions to reduce environmental footprint. In projects, packaging trials are conducted either in our own packaging hall or at project partners/food producers.
I have formal competence in project management, where I have led and currently lead various projects in close collaboration with different business partners, both within the supplier industry and food producers. I am actively involved in food waste work both nationally and in the EU, in collaboration with Norwegian industry actors and authorities. I participate with presentations at industry meetings and research conferences. My educational background is as an agronomist (master thesis) in animal science and aquaculture (NLH 1999), with a focus on animal technology and a thesis on the quality of salmon. My PhD (NMBU, 2008) was titled “Reduced Free Volume Using CO2 Emitter During Storage of Fresh Salmon and Cod in Modified Atmosphere”.
