Summary
Based on reported quality challenges with large cod caught with Danish seine, Nofima carried out a mapping study in 2020 in which catch landings from 3 Danish seine vessels were examined with regard to quality defects on splitted fish. Here it was established that there were differences in quality between the vessels and between individual catches for the same vessel. Large fish (8 kg plus) had a significantly higher injury frequency compared to smaller fish. Based on these findings and industry request, FHF has started the project «Quality challenges with large cod caught with Danish seine ». This report is part 1 of the project and summarizes the knowledge status of quality of cod caught with Danish seine. The literature review includes, amongst others, catching, on boarding, catch handling and storage on board. The knowledge from the industry was obtained in a workshop where experience and knowledge of fishermen, catch landings, equipment suppliers and researchers were summarized.
