BIVALVI
BIVALVI aims to advance bivalve production in Europe in a sustainable way by combining genetics and reproductive technologies with improved health and production management.
Period
2022 - 2025
Funded by
ERA-NET BlueBio
SeaSoil
The overall objective of this project is to promote value creation, including ecosystem services, and a further expansion of the seaweed industry in Europe.
SeaSoil is funded through the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program (ERA-NET BlueBio cofund Grant No. 817992) and through the SeaSoil project funded by The Research Council of Norway (Grant No. 339232).
Kongemat
The main goal of this project is to test whether rlumpfish, either as a coating on dry crab food or as raw (frozen) food, can increase appetite and feed intake in juvenile king crabs and thus lead to an increased degree of meat content and value of the king crabs.
2022 - 2023
MABIT
Temp-Intens
Temp-Intens' main objective is to provide recommendations for commercial production of salmon through optimization of temperature and salinity. These critical test variables will be tested under different farming conditions in the hatchery stage, and the fish will be monitored all the way until they are slaughtered, in order to assess performance, health, welfare and product quality.
FHF – Norwegian Seafood Research Fund with contribution from industry
GelPack
The aim of this project is to establish pilot-scale production of fish gelatin from salmon fish scales and assess the suitability of the extracted gelatin for food packaging applications.
FlatSnurr
The aim of this project is to increase the utilisation of flatfish inside the fjord lines by further developing methods for Danish seine fishing, live storage and processing.
2022 - 2024
Norwegian Seafood Research Fund - FHF - project id 901717
SeaMark
SeaMark aims to upscale circular ocean seaweed cultivation and land-based integrated multi-trophic aquaculture (IMTA) systems and develop novel processing methods involving fermentation and biotransformation into twelve innovative seaweed-based products.
2022 - 2026
Horizon Europe (EU)
This project investigates the consequences of the loss of MSC certificates for cod and haddock caught within 12 nautical miles of the coast.
FHF – Norwegian Seafood Research Fund
BlockMatNet
BlockMatNet will create a network of Norwegian stakeholders involved and interested in the use of blockchain technology in the food industry.
The Research Council of Norway
This project investigates challenges related to animal welfare in fisheries in a world where both nature and technology are constantly changing.
Nofima
PhyPhy
The project aims to extract valuable components from the siphonophore "Portuguese man-of-war" (Physalia physalis) for use in the medical and cosmetic industry.
EEA-grant
CLEAN
The CLEAN project develops scientific methods and management solutions to address the cumulative impacts and risks associated with multiple stressors in High North ecosystems.
FRAM – High North Research Centre for Climate and the Environment (The Fram Centre)
CoastShift
CoastShift looks at the possibilities of increasing food production on the coast of Northern Norway, and at the same time making it more sustainable.
Ministry of Climate and Environment through FRAM – High North Research Centre for Climate and the Environment
Helt konge
In this project, we will investigate the relationships between conditions for live storage (environment) and feeding (dry feed) of small king crabs through 1-3 shell changes and the quality of the product after processing.
AnimalFatPlus
AnimalFatPlus addresses challenges facing the meat industry: How to decrease the content of saturated fat in processed meat products without compromising sensory quality and how to utilize the excess animal fat to environmental friendly surfactants.
The Agricultural and Food Industry Research Funds
SusKelpFood
There is a growing need to produce more food in a sustainable way. In the SusKelpFood project, we examine how kelp aquaculture can be a part of the solution for the sustainable production of food and animal feed.
Norwegian Research Council
HydroSens
In this project, we will develop taste-neutral protein hydrolysates with high technical quality from poultry by-products that are suitable for human consumption
Traditionally, farmed salmon are transported to land to be slaughtered at a harvesting plant. The aim of this project is to increase knowledge about slaughtering fish on board boats and how it affects fish welfare, quality, process technology, business administration and societal effects.
This is a small selection of the more than 500 projects Nofima is involved in at any given time.
