Background

To understand and manage the cumulative impacts from many types of human activities on the environment is challenging. It is complicated by the influence of climate change and long-transported pollutants, and by much of the management being sector-based.

Goal

The project investigates and develops scientific knowledge and methods to study the cumulative impacts, and it also evaluates management challenges and options to better handle these impact, including through better use of scientific knowledge.

What we do

Nofima leads the work aimed at better management of cumulativeimpacts, together with Akvaplan-niva. It includes analyzing how overall effects are handled in different types of management, how knowledge is used, and how this can be improved.

Also central are analyzes of how the interaction is between sector administrations and integrative management mechanisms, such as water management, coastal zone planning and marine management plans.
