iNOBox

Web based tool for innovative processing technologies

Teaming up with key industry and market players, the main goal for the iNOBox research project was to integrate in the Norwegian food industry more efficient, profitable and sustainable processing, securing the supply of safe, high-quality and nutritious foods.

InProVe

Innovative processing of vegetables and potatoes

In this project we wanted to increase consumers’ access to safe, healthy and convenient food through novel energy efficient processing techniques and improve utilization of raw material, by-products and waste.

Qualidiff

Quality-based differentiation of salmon

Can we increase the value of salmon by emphasizing salmon quality in different ways?

Edulia

Bringing down barriers to children’s healthy eating

Based on the relations between sensory perception, pleasure, food choice and food behaviour, the project will look for new approaches to drive children to like and actively choose healthy foods, developing healthier dietary habits.

PERAGILL

Peracetic acid treatment against AGD

This project will explore an alternative strategy to treat amoebic gill disease (AGD), a serious problem in Atlantic salmon aquaculture.

Whitefish

Unlocking novel product possibilities and barriers for commercial utilization of whitefish residual raw materials onboard factory trawlers

The Norwegian whitefish factory trawlers generate large quantities of residual raw materials. Only minor parts are utilized due to lack of economic incentives and viable technology onboard the fishing vessels. The whitefish residuals have food grade quality, and a large potential for value creation through development of new food products.

VegMeatCRC

Sausages with added vegetables for prevention of colorectal cancer

The project investigates the association between consumption of processed meat (sausage) and colorectal cancer (CRC).

SafeConsume

Safer food through better kitchen hygiene

SafeConsume was a large European project with the goal of helping European consumers avoid foodborne illness.

FoodProFuture

Innovative and Sustainable Exploitation of Plant Proteins in Future Foods

FoodProFuture aims to develop the necessary knowledge platform for optimal production and utilization of Norwegian plant resources into tasty, healthy and attractive plant-based food products with high protein content.

Spectec

Better quality assessment with spectroscopy

With this effort we wish to coordinate, develop and promote Nofima’s expertise in rapid and non-destructive measurements for process optimization.

SUREAQUA

Nordic Centre of Excellence for sustainable and resilient aquatic production

The Nordic Centre of Excellence for sustainable and resilient aquatic production (SUREAQUA) was established in 2017 to facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration across the Nordic bioeconomy community.

Aquaculture sustainability indicators

A web portal with indicators on the sustainability of Norwegian aquaculture was developed. The portal was released in December 2018, and covers more than 20 different themes on environmental, economic and social sustainability. The portal has been replaced by the service AkvaInfo in January 2025.

Peptek

Peptide technology for the future’s protein production

With the use of modern, research-based process technology and expertise, unused or under utilized biomass of marine or terrestrial origin can be used for new, marketable products. We coordinate, develop and increase Nofima’s total expertise related to the future of sustainable protein production. Peptek is a strategic research initiative focused on sustainability, total utilization, food safety and future food security.

CtrlAQUA

Centre for Research-Based Innovation in Closed-Containment Aquaculture

CtrlAQUA is a Centre for Research-based Innovation (SFI) that will lay the foundation for the development of closed-containment concepts of the future. With greater control of the production process, it will be possible to reduce problems associated with mortality and sea lice, and to reduce the production time for farmed salmon.

Breeding programme for cod

Nofima runs the national breeding programme for cod, which provides important data for developing a profitable cod farming industry.

The profitability survey

Profitability analyses for the fish processing industry

Every year Nofima conducts a survey of profitability and structural changes in the Norwegian fish processing industry. Here you can examine some of the numerical data.

ShellFeed

Risk assessment of algal toxins in new marine feed sources for salmon

ShellFeed project aims to enhance understanding of the toxicity of these algal toxins in salmon following dietary exposure, and to investigate the potential transfer of these toxins or their metabolites into fish fillets or by-products.

AQUAEXCEL 3.0

AQUAEXCEL 3.0 offers European researchers the opportunity to use selected research facilities for aquaculture across Europe.
