Research areas

Aquaculture systems

Fish can be farmed in multiple ways. We obtain knowledge of how best to produce fish in the different systems by focusing on fish welfare and quality.

Bioprocessing

We conduct research into how to extract valuable components from raw materials to be used in new products.

Breeding and genetics

Breeding involves systematically building on an animal’s preferred beneficial genetic characteristics.

Capture fisheries

Seafood must be sustainably harvested with respect for life both on land and at sea.

Farmed fish

Fish production know-how is the basis for sustainable aquaculture.

Feed development and nutrition

Feed contains a variety of ingredients that must meet a fish’s nutritional needs at various stages of its life.

Food from new sources

New knowledge and technologies make it possible to produce food to feed the world’s growing population in brand-new ways.

Raw material knowledge

Our knowledge of the raw materials, their properties and what happens to them during various production processes and our knowledge of processing and storage factors enables us to know how to maximise food quality.
