Chicken meal for salmon
The aim of this project is to facilitate increased utilisation of chicken residues in feed for salmon.
Period
2024 - 2027
Funded by
Norwegian Seafood Research Fund (FHF)
The industry wants a shift from today's production of unrefined crude oils to pet food, towards more production of profitable salmon oils of high quality for human consumption.
2024 - 2026
FHF - Norwegian Seafood Research Fund
In this project, the possibilities for a significant reduction of energy consumption and CO2 footprint during the production of fishmeal using new drying technologies are explored.
FHF – Norwegian Seafood Research Fun
Nofima is among the leading institutions in Norway for feed research - especially for farmed fish. To further strengthen our position in this area, we have allocated internal funds in 2024 to work across departments and geographical locations.
2024 - 2024
Nofima
SalmoE2
In SalmoE2, we aim to test whether ethyl ester (EE) oil can be used as a safe source of nutritionally beneficial fatty acids in the feed for salmon and trout.
2023 - 2025
FHF – Norwegian Seafood Research Fund
Mussel up
Blue mussel (Mytilus edulis) can become a local protein ingredient for sustainable growth in the Norwegian aquaculture industry, but there are still major challenges associated with production upscaling and processing into protein ingredients with high nutritional value.
2023 - 2026
SynoProtein
In SynoProtein the aim is to develop and demonstrate a carbon-negative process that converts residues from sawmills into single-cell proteins for fish feed, as well as producing biochar for animal feed.
2023 - 2028
Horizon Europe (EU)
In the project titled 'Urea in Farmed Salmon Feed for Enhanced Fish Welfare,' our aim is to explore the potential benefits of incorporating urea as an additive into farmed salmon feed.

2022 - 2025
SeaSoil is funded through the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program (ERA-NET BlueBio cofund Grant No. 817992) and through the SeaSoil project funded by The Research Council of Norway (Grant No. 339232).
Kongemat
The main goal of this project is to test whether rlumpfish, either as a coating on dry crab food or as raw (frozen) food, can increase appetite and feed intake in juvenile king crabs and thus lead to an increased degree of meat content and value of the king crabs.
2022 - 2023
MABIT
FeedCtrl
The aim of this project is to shed light on the relationship that exists between feed ingredients, feed technology and sludge, and how this can help increase the utilisation of feed resources and also improve water quality in land-based facilities (RAS).
2022 - 2024
CrispResist
Do Pacific salmon species carry a secret they could share with Atlantic salmon? What is it in the genes that make these relatives of Atlantic salmon less susceptible to lice? Researchers is looking for the answers to these questions, using the gene editing method CRISPR-Cas9.
