My main research relates to plant-produced, health-related compounds in fruits, berries and vegetables, lately also beans and pulses, and how they change by cultivar, cultivation, post-harvest treatment, processing and storage. A central part of my research concerns the relationship between plant compounds and flavor. I have a special interest in instrumental and statistical methods in analytical chemistry, with emphasis on metabolomics, extraction methods, liquid- and gas chromatography and mass spectrometry.
I hold a diploma degree (correspondent MSc) in marine environmental sciences from the University of Oldenburg, Germany (2005) and a doctoral degree in natural sciences with specialization in analytical chemistry at the Alfred-Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research and Technical University of Braunschweig, Germany (2010).
