Some results

Increased knowledge of coexistence between fish farming, fisheries and fishing tourism is of significant interest and is very central for the parties in both the private and public sectors in the region of Finnmark.

It is important to find good solutions, so that the interaction between various business operators in the same coastal zone can promote business operations with minimum conflicts. Public administration also has a substantial requirement for more knowledge, allowing them to safeguard different interests in Finnmark.

There is clearly a great need for competence building with regard to coexistence, and this is very useful for both the private and public sector in order to further develop industry in Finnmark county.

The main objective with SaRi is to provide factual knowledge of coexistence between three different industries (fish farming, fisheries and fishing tourism) to develop the business sector in Finnmark county.

Sub-targets

Sub-targets which shall result in achievement of the main objective:

  1. Highlight effects in the form of employment, tax revenues and ripple effects of the industries’ activities at a local level, as a societal contribution to development in Finnmark.
  2. Map challenges and opportunities associated with coexistence between fish farming, fisheries and fishing tourism in Finnmark.
  3. Identify any knowledge gaps for public administration at a regional level with regard to coexistence, and what methods/tools are used to safeguard different interests in Finnmark (fish farmers, fishermen, tourist fishing).
  4. Identify which knowledge factors provide guidelines for coexistence related to environmental, economic, social, and institutional sustainability.

  • Further develop the method for ripple effect analysis at regional and local level
  • Publish the findings from the ripple effect analysis on a dynamic web solution
  • Increase knowledge of opportunities and challenges related to coexistence between fisheries, fish farming and fishing tourism in Finnmark
  • Identify any knowledge gaps in public administration at a regional level regarding the trade-off between different users in Finnmark
  • Create a knowledge arena for coexistence between social parties in Finnmark (politicians, various business operators, public administration, Sámi interests)
  • Produce knowledge that hopefully can contribute to a positive dialogue between various business operators in Finnmark
  • Establish knowledge for use in municipal and intermunicipal coastal zone planning processes
