I’m a researcher in Fish Health. My areas of work are centered around fish health and nutrition, and particularly within the areas related to “new resources for fish feed” and the transfer, biotransformation and impact of ‘unwanted substances’ from feed to fish. It can be different category of contaminants, biotoxins or others. My main focus is to improve salmon health and welfare and at the same time provide safe fish for human consumption. I also work with various in vitro models especially with salmon skin cells, and exposure models with salmon skin pathogens. I also find salmon lice very interesting! Together with my colleagues, we are developing assays using early-stage larvae of L. salmonis to better understand host–pathogen interactions through advanced molecular and cellular tools.
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Fisheries Science from KUFOS (India) and a Master’s degree in Fish Genetics and Breeding from CIFE (India). I completed my PhD at the Norwegian Veterinary Institute (Research Group Toxinology).
