Summary
Marine ingredient industry is a term used on companies that produce ingredients or goods based on marine raw material. In Norway, the industry comprises of around 61 companies. The industry is characterized by great diversity and large differences between the companies regarding factors like the source of raw materials, ownership, size and market. There are large differences in value creation and the companies’ profitability. Some companies perform poorly, while others do very well. The study shows that the challenges in the industry relates to other conclusions drawn over the last 20 years; more knowledge about market, access to capital and development of industry structure is needed to release the potential.
