From waste to awareness: designing household food waste interventions across consumer profiles
Summary
This doctoral thesis presents the results obtained within the Sustainable Easters project (No. 320800), which was funded by the Research Council of Norway through the BIONÆR funding program. Nofima leads the project in collaboration with 26 partners from research, industry, the public sector, and non-profit organisations. The main objective of Sustainable Eaters is to enable and amplify consumers’ contributions to achieve a sustainable Norwegian food system. Experimental work was partially supported by the Norwegian Fund for Research Fees for Agricultural Products (FFL) through the projects Food for Future (nr. 314318) and InnoSense (nr. 354153). The work was conducted at Nofima in Ås, Norway, from September 2021 to December 2025 under the main supervision of Dr Valerie Lengard Almli (Nofima/NMBU) and the co-supervision of Dr Mari Øvrum Gaarder (Nofima) and Professor Siv Kjølsrud Bøhn (NMBU). The thesis is submitted to the Faculty of Chemistry, Biotechnology and Food Science at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) for the degree of Philosophiae Doctor (PhD).
