This second webinar in the series is about biology in early life of the salmon. Erik Burgerhout in Nofima and Rob McFarling at the University of Exeter, UK, will present the research:

Erik Burgerhout is a researcher in the Production Biology department of the Aquaculture division at Nofima. His main interest is on understanding the molecular physiological mechanisms of phenotypic plasticity: how does the early life environment, such as temperature and oxygen influence the phenotype (e.g. growth, disease resistance) later in life, and to apply this knowledge to improve aquaculture practices.

Rob McFarling – Postdoctoral Research Assistant (Aquaculture and Aquatic Toxicology), University of Exeter, UK. He will be talking about his research into rainbow trout aquaculture and how conditions experienced during early embryo development can shape responsiveness to stress at later life stages.

The webinar will be in English, and Linda Tschirren in Nofima will guide you through these 50 minutes. After the presentations there will be a Q&A session.

About the webinar series

For 2025, the series will cover three key topics:

  1. Cardiorespiratory physiology
  2. Stress physiology
  3. Mucosal immunity

This free webinar is designed for researchers, students, academics, industry professionals, fish health personnel, and others interested intereressert i temaet. The webinar series is part of the SIS Frontiers project, a strategic initiative within the Aquaculture Division of Nofima.
