I work at the Department of Marine Biotechnology.

We develop processes for the maximum utilisation of all types of marine raw materials. Marine species such as seaweed and kelp (also called macroalgae) are already a valuable resource for Norway. My focus area is to look for new environmentally friendly processes to extract valuable components such as fucoidan, polyphenols, proteins, minerals, carrageenan, lipids etc from wild seaweed and kelp species.

Our group collaborates with research groups and companies from Norway, Estonia, Iceland, Denmark, Latvia, the Netherlands, Scotland, Austria and Spain.

Together with several leading European macroalgae growers, we are also working on systems for cultivating red macroalgae in tanks.
