Summary
Plant-based food and sustainability has gained interest for several reasons. In the period 2016 to 2020 there
has been a rapid growth in sales of plant-based food products in Norway. This applies to both meat substitutes,
ready-to-eat vegetarian foods and plant-based dairy replacers. However, Norwegian plant-based products are
relatively poorly represented. In addition, the new plant-based products have a fairly short lifespan. Only two
out of ten products are still among the top ten after the five-year period. The plant-based food categories can,
with few exceptions, refer to foreign manufacturing and soy-based products.
