Summary

When analyzing for fiber by the method A 104 Fiber ANKOM after the startup (09.05.17) there has been observed high values and poor repitability. After a customer complain (higher value than expected) there was an initiative to do an additional validation where the focus was to check if a better method for defatting gave more stable and correct results. The intended defatting method was like the method A 03 Fat Soxhlet. After testing with several comparative laboratory testing samples (SLP) it is concluded that a defatting by the method A 03 Fat Soxhlet, which has a longer defatting period than originally in A 104 Fiber ANKOM (AOCS Ba 6a-05), does not influence the correctness or the repeatability in a negative way. There is a large probability that the defatting method in AOCS Ba 6a-05 has not been enough for the fatty samples, and that this have influenced the fiber results to have higher results then what was real. At the same time this has also led to extra control analysis because of poor repeatability. The method A 104 Fiber ANKOM will as of 05.12.17 be done by using the defatting from the cold distillation with petroleum spirit in according to the method A 03 Fat Soxhlet.
