Summary
This report summarises two reports on structural measures for the fishing fleet, the drivers and the consequences for the fishing fleet, the fish-processing industry and coastal societies. The report discusses fleet concentration, including differences among vessel groups, and finally points to the political dilemmas related to how much, how and how fast the fishing fleet may be reduced. The processing industry is influenced by a range of factors, while this project concentrates on the effects on the processing industry of changes in the landing pattern of the fleet. The processing industry is clearly affected by the size and number of landings. We also reveal marked changes in the regional landing pattern, with more fish being landed in northern Norway. At the municipal level changes are even more marked, with clear winners and losers regarding fishing and processing activity.
