Summary
We explore the possibility for establishing a financial contract market in the Norwegian first-hand trade of wild-caught fish. Based on a literature study we define a set of success-criteria for contract markets. Then we define some specific challenges and advantages connected with establishing such a market in the first-hand trade of fish in Norway. We perform an empirical analysis based on these defined success-criteria and find that the first-hand markets for frozen cod and fresh Norwegian spring spawning herring have the best prerequisites for sustaining a contract market.
