Background:

Norway’s seafood industry prioritises environmental responsibility. However, challenges remain for consumers, who are exposed to misinformation and conflicting messages about the sustainability and health aspects of food.

Objectives:

he aim of the project is to create a sustainable and healthy food management system (AI-SHeFMan), based on digital tools that combine health and environmental perspectives. The system will support consumers and policy decisions towards more sustainable food systems.

We aim to raise awareness through easily accessible, personalised information on the sustainability, quality and safety of seafood throughout the value chain.

By using modern AI technology, the main objective of AI-SHeFMan is to lower the barriers to consumers gaining more knowledge about the benefits of eating seafood and, ultimately, to promote more sustainable and healthy seafood consumption.

The project will develop a mobile app intended to increase awareness of healthy food choices and provide information about sustainability. The app will also give consumers feedback on how their own food choices affect the environment.

What we do:

Nofima leads the work to map key stakeholders and collect and screen data on seafood products relevant to the project, including nutrition, quality, safety, carbon footprint, waste and by-products.
