ActFast
Actions for climate transition by developing future aquaculture strategies and technologies
Climate change is creating challenges for European aquaculture. In this project, scientists will develop new technological solutions and strategies to safeguard both fish and the industry.

Background
Climate changes pose challenges to European aquaculture. The ActFast project addresses some of these challenges through innovation:
- Undetailed predictions of climate driven environmental changes
- Warming waters and other climate effects harming fish and mollusk health
- Decrease of fish welfare
- Difficulties in early detection of climate related diseases and pathogens
- Mortality due to Harmful Algal Blooms
- Coastal farms ravaged by alien species predation
- Limited standardization of circular farming systems
- Lack of tailored efficient low carbon feed formulations for specific environmental conditions
Objectives
ActFast aims to identify, validate, and demonstrate climate change adaptation and mitigation solutions tailored for European aquaculture, alongside opportunities to increase sustainable production.
What we do
Nofima’s responsibility in the project is to:
- Estimate genetic and dietary effects for Complex Gill Disease in A. salmon.
- Estimate genetic and dietary effects on health and lipid deposition traits in salmon that has been kept in RAS during their early life phase.
