I am a researcher in the Seafood Industry Department at Nofima. I have been working on developing and applying underwater optical instruments to facilitate in situ observing and monitoring of the environment, organisms, and resources. Specifically, I focus on underwater multi/hyperspectral imaging techniques for biogeochemical research and camera based underwater autonomous observation systems.
I have an academic background in ocean optics, specializing in underwater multispectral/hyperspectral imaging. I did my Ph.D. from 2014 to 2019 at Zhejiang University in China, during which I participated in a joint Ph.D. program at GEOMAR Helmholtz Center for Ocean Research Kiel in Germany from 2016 to 2018, where I developed and applied a tunable LED based underwater multispectral imaging system for observation of cold water corals. Then I worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Physics and Technology at the University of Bergen from 2020 to 2024, focusing on calibration and application of optical instruments for atmospheric and oceanic observations.
I joined Nofima in 2025 to continue advancing the use of hyperspectral imaging technology for non-invasive quality assessment of aquacultured fish and to adapt and extend the technology to underwater in-situ monitoring of fish welfare.
